In the second chapter of the introduction to the cars in the LM GTE Pro and Am classes at the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2013, this time it is the Porsche 911, which this year celebrates its half-century.
The road version of the 911, unveiled at the 1963 Frankfurt Motor Show, combined technical originality of an rear mounted air-cooled engine (water cooled since 1998) with a timeless power of seduction that has lasted fifty years. You can bet it will still be modern when Porsche celebrates its centenary!
The 2012 season. Despite its proverbial reliability, the 911 was dominated by the Ferrari 458 Italia and the Corvette, but still scored some big wins at the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps WEC, the 6 Hours of Fuji and in other "Le Mans" labelled series.
2013 goals. The reconquest of both LM GTE Pro with the factory team Team Manthey Porsche AG, and in LM GTE Am, with the French team IMSA Performance Matmut who were in the lead half an hour before the chequered flag in 2012. You can also add the presence of Patrick Dempsey, whose charm will gain considerable media attention.
The 90th anniversary 24 Hours of Le Mans is on the 22nd and 23rd June. Click HERE for ticket information.
