The State of Utah is one of the legendary sites in the history of motorsports: located 185kms west of Salt Lake City, the Bonneville Salt Flats was the theatre of Homeric battles for the land speed world record in the late sixties and early seventies.
All the ALMS regulars will be joining Utah, including the teams seen at the Le Mans 24 Hours: Flying Lizard Motorsports, Risi Competizione, Corvette Racing, JaguarRSR, Drayson Racing, and current series leader Highcroft Racing. “Many people had us as favourites for the LMP2 class at Le Mans, which I believe was rather unjustified given the fact that we had never been there before,” remembers Highcroft Racing boss Duncan Dayton. “We will be much stronger next time because everybody will know what to expect. It won't be such a strange environment for everyone.”
Regarding the Salt Lake City race, “we are clearly going to be at disadvantage considering the top speed performance between ourselves and the turbo cars like the Mazda, and Jon Field’s LMP1, especially at a higher altitude at Salt Lake”, Dayton comments. But Highcroft Racing intends to take the best out of the forthcoming race.
