The second round of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup, the 1000 km of Spa-Francorchamps, will be held on the 7th May 2011. Not to be missed for one low price: Tickets from only 10 Euros!
Spa-Francorchamps is an important venue for motorsports in general, and endurance racing in particular, for several reasons. First, it is one of the most beautiful circuits in the world, located in the heart of the Belgian Ardennes, very fast, and unanimously praised by drivers worldwide in all disciplines. It is a key event of the endurance racing season; the last race before the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and all competitors expected for the great week in La Sarthe will be found in Belgium for a great 'dress rehearsal' for the 24h.
In 2011, 1,000 km of Spa-Francorchamps is part of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup for the first time. The ILMC season opened on the 19th March in the USA at the 12 Hours of Sebring. In Prototypes, Audi and Peugeot who promised to be more formidable than ever stumbled in Florida: the new 908 showed its pace by winning the pole position at Sebring, while the 908 HDi FAP entrusted to Oreca Matmut perfectly backed-up the works team, winning the race after setbacks for the factory cars. Located in the Lola of Rebellion Racing, the new Toyota engine took the chequered flag in seventh position for its racing debut and finished second in the 6 Hours of Le Castellet. In GT, BMW won in the United States, and the new Ferrari F458 Italia has confirmed its enormous potential in the first round of LMS last Sunday. You can be sure that Porsche will remain at the forefront with its proverbial reliability.
This second round of the ILMC will be the racing debut of a long-awaited new prototype, the Audi R18, which underwent extensive testing in Florida, just after the Sebring 12 Hours and will make its first appearance against its closest rival in the preliminary testing day of the 24 Hours of Le Mans on April 24. Not to mention the Aston Martin AMR-One in LM P1 and Lotus Evora in LM GTE Pro who also compete in their first ILMC race. The 1000 km of Spa-Francorchamps is an exciting prospect ... especially in expectation if the (often unpredictable) weather in the Belgian Ardennes, decides to get involved!
