IMSA and Le Mans - Check out Michael Shank Racing's Ligier (video)
Unlike the European (ELMS) and Asian (Asian LMS) championships whose winners nab an automatic invitation to the following edition of Le Mans, their American counterpart, the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, chooses two representatives to compete in the 24 Hours. In 2016, that will be Scuderia Corsa and Michael Shank Racing.
Though the Michael Shank Racing outfit will take its first start at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, it already has solid experience in endurance, having won at the Rolex 24 at Daytona in 2012 with two of the drivers who will be present at Le Mans in June, Ozz Negri and John Pew.
Negri and Pew are drivers in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, new moniker of the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, and will be joined by Olivier Pla, new official Ford driver, for the NAEC (North American Endurance Cup), mini-championship of the four long races of the American series. On the other hand, for Le Mans, the French driver will race the Ford GT, so the American-Brazilian duo will be supported by Laurens Vanthoor, who debuted at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2015 in a Ligier JS P2-Honda entered by OAK Racing, the racing branch of Onroak Automotive, constructor of the Ligier.

During the legendary race, spectators witness a spectacular phenomenon. In the darkness of the Le Mans night, brake discs burn bright red during heavy braking. But why?
Porsche Penske Motorsport will once again take part in the Racing for Charity fundraiser at the 24 Hours of Le Mans (11–15 June). The German manufacturer will be donating 500 Euros for every lap completed by the Porsche 963 Hypercar. The funds raised help two charities care for sick children.
