The Taylor brothers were clear winners of the short 1-hour-40-minute race in the #10 Corvette DP, at least three seconds ahead of the #5 Corvette DP fielded by Action Express Racing.
Jordan Taylor took the lead with thirty minutes left and held onto it despite a safety car intervention for one of the Formula Le Mans in the PC class, which was won by the #85 Goikhberg Simpson.
The overall result was a one-two-three for Chevrolet Corvette but in GTLM the American constructor had to be content with second place behind Patrick Pilet and 2015 Le Mans winner Nick Tandy in the Porsche 911. The #4 C7.R was still in the lead minutes before the end but was hit by Frédéric Makowiecki in the #912 Porsche 911 and deprived of victory. Third place went to Risi Competizione’s #62 Ferrari 488 driven by Giancarlo Fisichella and Toni Vilander.
The drivers of the #4 Corvette, Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner won the LM GTE Pro class with Jordan Taylor at Le Mans last year and Ricky Taylor will be driving one of the official Corvettes in the 24 Hours of Le Mans this June.
Neither the DeltaWing nor the second Corvette saw the race out and the #100 BMW M6’s bonnet flew open causing John Edwards to swerve off the track. As for the much-anticipated Ford GTs, one came fourth and the other, driven by Dirk Müller, had a door problem.
The next round of the championship is also on the west coast. Rendez-vous at Laguna Seca on 1 May!
