Interview: Gunnar Jeannette and Frank Montecalvo

When he first came here in 2000, Jeannette was barely 18 years old and became the youngest driver ever to finish at Le Mans and the second youngest ever to compete at the Sarthe, after Ricardo Rodriguez.

Second in line in Monday's scrutineering was the No.58 Luxury Racing Ferrari to be driven by Pierre Ehret and Americans Frank Montecalvo and Gunnar Jeannette.

When he first came here in 2000, Jeannette was barely 18 years old and became the youngest driver ever to finish at Le Mans and the second youngest ever to compete at the Sarthe, after Ricardo Rodriguez. This year will be Jeannette's eighth start and he finds himself a veteran looking after one of his co-drivers, 21-year old rookie Montecalvo.

"Well, I'm trying to help him the best I can," says Jeannette, "It's Frankie's first 24-hour race. It's good, though, I just try to impart as much knowledge on him as I can, but this place, as far as traffic goes, isn't that bad. There are 56 cars out there, but it's eight-and-a-half miles long."

For his part, Montecalvo is ready to go.

"I definitely fell in love with the track. There was some anxiety or nervousness before, but the first time I got out there, I just tried to settle into a groove and get up to speed as fast as possible. But it was a great experience and I'm really looking forward to the race."

Most importantly, all three drivers are pleased with their car.

"We may not be the fastest," says Jeannette, and there are some things we can do to make it better, but right now we can drive it and be comfortable over a long run. And that's important, especially because we might be getting some rain."
