Jaguar is the third Le Mans-winning carmaker after Renault and Audi to join the ranks of Formula E. The manufacturer will find many familiar faces from the world of endurance, among them Loïc Duval, who won Le Mans in 2013, Sébastien Buemi, who was FIA world champion driver with Toyota in 2014, Sam Bird, world champion driver in LM P2, Stéphane Sarrazin, who can boast three pole positions at Le Mans and Oliver Turvey, LM P2 class winner in 2014.
As a British manufacturer, Jaguar won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1951, 1953, 1955, 1956, 1957, 1988 and 1990. The brand is now owned by Indian conglomerate Tata.
This announcement comes just before the third leg of the current Formula E season, in Punta del Este, Uruguay on Saturday 19 December. As well as the aforementioned, there will be a host of other successful Le Mans drivers on the grid, namely Lucas di Grassi, Daniel Abt, Nicolas Prost and Nathanaël Berthon.
