24h Le Mans
Hit group Jamiroquai will play at the 24 Hours of Le Mans circuit this Friday 15 June. They will take the stage near the Dunlop Bridge at 21:00. Fan Vincent Lecourt-Quaggio from Le Mans has designed and built an impressive sculpture that he intends to present to singer Jay Kay!
Like lots of kids in Le Mans, Vincent Lecourt-Quaggio grew up to the sounds of racing cars and bikes. But that’s not all, he discovered the British band Jamiroquai at the age of nine, “attracted by the sleeve of the album ‘Travelling without moving’ which featured Jamiroquai’s Buffalo Man on a Ferrari badge.” He was hooked. “I got all their other albums.”
His passion for the group hasn’t dwindled with time. “I’ve been to see them in concert eight times: in Nîmes, Muzillac, several times at Bercy, at the Vieilles Charrues festival...” The 30-year-old particularly admires “the groove and Jay Kay’s personality. I listen to them every day!”
Vincent also saw them in concert in 2003, when the group came to the circuit to perform during the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Jay Kay is an avid motorsport fan and has an impressive collection of cars.
They’re back again this year – this time on the eve of the race. As soon as the date was announced, Vincent booked his ticket for the concert. But he was determined to go the extra mile. “I wanted to create something unique and unusual. To express my admiration, my respect and to just say thank-you.”
Vincent works for a firm that makes advertising signs and publicity materials. With their help, he decided to create a statue – the silhouette of the singer with his Buffalo Man hat. The statue has a wooden frame outlining holding a green “grass” interior. It stands on an illuminated base in shape of the 24 Hours circuit. “I used carbon adhesive as a nod to racing cars.”
The statue will be left for the star in his dressing room. “He won’t miss it, that’s for sure! Now, I’m waiting to find out if I can meet him! It would be a childhood dream come true.”
