During the traditional pre-race press conference in Suzuka, Japan, Jenson Button, F1 McLaren Honda driver, revealed he could very well see himself in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) sometime when the future of his career as a former F1 World Champion turns somewhat unclear.
Since the moment Jenson Button declared he had made a decision about pursuing his career in F1 or not, rumors have been swirling. When the question was asked at the press conference about his future, he responded relative to the World Endurance Championship (WEC): "In the right situation, I could see me doing that in the future. I've watched a lot of races over the last couple of years and I love the team atmosphere – it's a massive team event. Achieving a win in a 24-hour race is something I think every driver would love. It's a very special accomplishment. I can definitely see myself racing in the WEC in the future."
The media of course asked him to specify what he meant by "in the right situation," to which he answered: "In the right team, if that ever came along, the right opportunity to race in LM P1." Though he declined to confirm if Porsche had made him an offer for 2016, his intriguing conclusion about what would motivate his decision, especially since his contract with McLaren will come to a close at the end of the season, will not stop tongues wagging: "To succeed in whatever I do, that's the most important."
