The Brit, 37 years of age, had been in a coma since Sunday. He succumbed to injuries inflicted by the debris from another competitor's accident.
After his debut in Karting, Justin Wilson continued on to Formula 3000 in which he won in 2001. In 2003, he participated in a season of Formula 1 and competed in 16 Grand Prix for the Minardi and Jaguar outfits. After four seasons in Champ Car in which he was vice-champion in 2006 and 2007, in 2008 he began participating in the IndyCar Series championship, racking up three victories.
In 2004, Justin Wilson took the start at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with the Racing for Holland team in a Dome-Judd along with Tom Coronel and Ralph Firman.
To his family and loved ones, the Automobile Club de l’Ouest extends its sincerest condolences.
