Karun Chandhok to race at Spa and Le Mans in LMP2-class Ligier for Tockwith Motorsports

After missing out on the 2016 race, former Formula One driver Karun Chandhok will be back at the 24 Hours of Le Mans on 17–18 June. He will be lining up with Phil Hanson and Nigel Moore in the Ligier JS P217 entered by Tockwith Motorsports in the European Le Mans Series.

For its 24 Hours of Le Mans début, Tockwith Motorsports is boosted by the arrival of Karun Chandhok, who has three LMP2 appearances at the Circuit de la Sarthe to his name and has finished every time. His fifth-place finish in LMP2 with Murphy Prototypes in 2015 is his best result to date.

Chandhok – the first Indian driver to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2012 – therefore knows his way around the LMP2 class, for which new technical regulations came into force at the turn of the year, unlike Tockwith Motorsports who ran in LMP3 in last year’s European championship.

In preparation for the Le Mans 24-hour marathon, the British outfit will be fielding its Ligier in the second round of the World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC) in Spa-Francorchamps on 6 May. This will bring the LMP2 field up to eleven for the Belgian race although the team headed by Simon Moore, who runs a driving school in the north of England, will be running the only Ligier JS P217 against the pack of ten Oreca 07s, the two Alpine A470s being based on an Oreca chassis.
