Third in the LM GTE Pro class at the 82nd edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June with the official Porsche team, Frédéric Makowiecki was entered by Honda last year in SuperGT in tandem with his endurance program with Aston Martin. The driver from Arras won in his first year, an exploit that got him noticed by Honda. Rather unsatisfied with its results since the beginning of the season, the Japanese manufacturer naturally turned to Makowiecki.
The French driver, with his teammate Naoki Yamamoto, gave the GT500 victory to Michelin which had achieved its 23rd win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June. It was even a one-two for the Clermont manufacturer since the official Nissan GT-R of Ronnie Quintarelli and Tsugio Matsuda crossed the finish line in second place behind the safety car. The tyres really made the difference as Michelin also won in the GT300 class.
Makowiecki will return to the Fuji Speedway on October 12th for the fifth round of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) that he will race with Porsche in the LM GTE Pro class, but before that he will head to Suzuka for the next SuperGT event and to Austin, Texas for the fourth round of the WEC.
