Le Mans 2014 – "Porsche and Mark did not miss out on their return to Le Mans" comments Alan Webber !

Alan Webber, Mark's father, watched the retirement of the No. 20 Porsche 919 Hybrid on hospitality television screens. An emotional scene.

A round of applause erupted in the large Porsche hospitality area. With a little more than two hours to go in the race, Mark Webber has just gotten behind the wheel of the No. 20 919 Hybrid. As he leaves the pits, Porsche crew members and support give another round of bravos.
"It was unlikely that we would see Mark battle for the victory with two hours to go, explains Alan Webber, his father, before adding. It will be difficult but I think Porsche would be very happy with a podium on their return."
Alan always followed his son at all the Formula 1 Grand Prix, and wouldn't miss out on being in La Sarthe. A trip he doesn't regret making.
"We arrived in France three weeks ago for the Monaco GP, then we went to Germany before coming back to France for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. We are staying at the circuit in a motorhome and we're enjoying our experience."
By "we", Alan means his wife Diana, Mark's mother who is perhaps less excited than Alan but is nevertheless very happy with her son's new career path.
« Mark is in a new phase of his life now," she admits. He is very very happy with Porsche. Like in F1, he has a lot of pressure he, except it's shared... "

Mark rejoins the action in second position. Everything seems to be going well when the PA system explodes with the words: 'the No. 20 is slowed!' The Australian is slowly making his way to the pits and finally makes it back. Immediately, the car is pushed in to the pitbox and the wait begins.
"I hope he'll get going again. Even if it's all over for victory, Porsche deserves to go to the end, cross that finish line!"
With 1:40 left in the race, Mark steps out of the car. The dream of a podium finish is gone, but Alan doesn't let himself get disappointed.
"Porsche and Mark did not miss out on their return to Le Mans, that's what we have to remember!" concludes Alan with a heavy heart, but also with the certitude that the Webber name will one day be in the history books of the greatest race in the world.
