In the LM P1 class, Toyota snatched the provisional pole thanks to Kazuki Nakajima (No. 7), ahead of the No. 14 and No. 20 Porsche 919 Hybrids. In the LM P2 class, the best performance was given by Tristan Gommendy, at the wheel of the Ligier-Nissan of the French team, Thiriet by TDS Racing. As for GT, AF Corse (No. 51 Ferrari 458 Italia) and SMP Racing (No. 72 Ferrari 458 Italia) solidified their respective domination in the LM GTE Pro et LM GTE Am classes.
This session was marked by several incidents which caused two red flags. First from 7:44 p.m.-8:10 p.m., following the incident for the No. 71 Ferrari driven at the time by James Calado. The session was halted again for 20 minutes starting at 8:25 p.m., after the accident involving the No. 1 Audi R18 e-tron quattro, the No. 29 Morgan-Nissan and the No. 79 Porsche.
Consequently, one half hour will be added to the third qualifying session that will now take place from 9:30 p.m. to midnight.
