During an accident, Léo, the lead mechanic for G-Drive Racing team's No. 26 Morgan Nissan (LM P2), checks what has been damaged and determines how repairs should be undertaken. But he doesn't wait to see the state of the car before (re)acting. Beforehand, he will have spoken with the engineer and he can also have listened to feedback from the driver (but he cannot talk with him) who brings the car back to the pitbox. Once the damage is evaluated, he gives orders to the other mechanics to get out the parts that will be needed. When the car arrives, his last inspection will only serve to confirm what has already been put in motion.
Four mechanics can then intervene on pit lane, meaning the lead mechanic, his second in command, the gearbox handler and another mechanic. If the team decides to enter the car in its pitbox, a maximum of eight mechanics can then intervene. Their task is often rendered difficult because they must deal with certain hot parts such as the body, the transmission, the exhausts or the brake discs that can reach 600 degrees!
