Le Mans Classic 2016 – Trevor Lawson and the Morgans

Trevor Lawson is a mechanic with Techniques, a British company specializing in Morgans.

"The cars in field 1, no one knows how to make them run like the Brits," confirms one expert. One thing is certain in any case, the Brits have experts, and they use them.

During the Le Mans Classic, six Morgan teams rely on assistance from Techniques, a specialized company who made available four technicians and one apprentice, trucks, a significant amount of materials and particularly plenty of know-how. "I started as a mechanic when I was fifteen or sixteen," says Trevor Morgan. "There came a time when I'd had enough of general automotive and I've specialized in Morgans for sixteen years now."

He describes a race weekend: "Sometimes we transport our clients' cars, but not always. On the other hand, we move an enormous amount of materials, tools, parts, tyres, even engines. Everything that needed to be done to the cars is done before leaving. We have more than wear checks – level, tyre pressure – to handle before the start. During the race, we stay in the pits to intervene if needed. We have what is needed to change a tyre if there is a flat, but we can't do much more in the pits, or give indications to the driver. After the race, if the driver doesn't have a specific problem to address, we let the car cool down. If he does, we go to work as quickly as possible, according to the agenda of the other fields."

One year, he recalls, the engine of a car had to be completely switched out. "It broke down on Friday during the free practice. We worked non-stop, in turns. As soon as one of us had some time, he went to work on it. And on Saturday afternoon, the car was ready to go."

Nothing so egregious took place this year. The 2016 edition of the Le Mans Classic was all about victories, good finishes, and no breakdowns, all-in-all an excellent weekend.
