This year, 2013, the Le Mans 24 Hours are celebrating their 90th anniversary. In this context, the Automobile Club de l

Last Friday in collaboration with the Royal Automobile Club of Belgium and the International Le Mans 24-Hours Drivers Club, the ACO paid homage to Freddy Rousselle.

He raced in the Le Mans 24 Hours on three occasions between 1956 and 1958 at the wheel of a car entered by the prestigious Ecurie Nationale Belge. He finished fourth twice in a works D-Type Jaguar, the first time with Jacques Swaters and the second with Paul Frère.

This induction was carried out by Pierre Fillon, President of the ACO, as well as by the youngest Belgian driver in the Spa-Francorchamps 6 Hours, Bertrand Baguette, who is competing in the WEC and then the Le Mans 24 Hours in an OAK Racing Morgan-Nissan, in the presence of eminent members of the RACB starting with its president, François Cornélis.

Freddy Rousselle was overcome with emotion and he delighted the audience with his memories of the Le Mans 24 Hours starting with his maiden outing. He arrived at Le Mans as reserve and he finally took part in the race after one of the two drivers originally selected threw in the towel 20 minutes before the start of the race. He had never driven the powerful D-Type Jaguar on the Le Mans circuit before!

The next day he was invited by OAK Racing to follow Bertrand Baguette’s race as both men, despite the 59 years separating them, are driven by their burning passion for the Le Mans 24 Hours!
