Le Mans memorabilia for auction at Fontainebleau

This coming Saturday 28 January, memorabilia devoted to motorsport, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans, will feature at auction house Osenat’s Automobilia sale in Fontainebleau.

Owning a car that has competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans is generally beyond most people’s wildest dreams, especially as the price tag has shot up in recent years. This weekend’s auction includes ten lots that should delight the many fans of the race.

They include posters such as the ones from 1965 (lot 126, together with the Monaco Grand Prix poster, estimated between €100 and €150), 1958 (lot 112, with the same estimated value) and 1971 (lot 121, estimated between €80 and €120), programmes like the ones issued for the 1963 tests (lot 35, a seven-programme set estimated between €80 and €120) or for the 1949 and 1950 races (lot 53, including a 1958 poster for an estimated value of €250–300).

Book enthusiasts will prefer Les 24 Heures du Mans by Roger Labric, printed in 1949 (lot 52, estimated between €100 and €200) or various publications including Les 800 Heures du Mans by 1960 winner Paul Frère (lot 54, estimated at €80–120).

Lot 38 is a collection of vintage prints from the 1952 24 Hours of Le Mans. Bids for this lot are expected to reach €800 to €1200, making this the most valuable of those devoted to the endurance classic.

Finally, miniature car collectors will have their eye on lot 204, comprising more than eighty cars from Le Mans and the Monte Carlo Rally (€130–200), and lot 202, featuring the 1967 #29 and #30 Matra MS630 alongside other vehicles, estimated to fetch from €100 to €150.

The Osenat sale will be held at Hôtel d’Albe, 9-11 rue Royale, in Fontainebleau.

Unable to attend the sale? Do not despair! Reproductions of 24 Hours of Le Mans posters, including the 1958 and 1971 editions, are available from our online store.
