Le Mans, Switzerland and endurance (1) - Rebellion Racing's journey

Since the inception of the World Endurance Championship (WEC) in 2012, Switzerland has emerged as one of the leading countries in recent 24 Hours of Le Mans history with many talented drivers, as well as one standout team, Rebellion Racing which has become a pillar of the discipline.

Rebellion Racing was first known by the name Speedy Racing Team Sebah. In 2009, the Anglo-Swiss outfit was a major player at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with its two Lola coupes powered by Aston Martin engines. The team brought to the finish both prototypes entered in two different classes: 12 place overall for its LM P2, and 14th for its LM P1.

In 2010, the team adopted the name of its main sponsor and became Rebellion Racing. It retained from the previous season what would become one of its calling cards: the use of 13 as a racing number, the other car taking 12. At the wheel of the latter was Swiss native Neel Jani and French driver Nicolas Prost. They were to become a very harmonious duo until the end of 2013 when Jani became a factory Porsche driver.

Thus, the Swiss flag proudly represented on Rebellion Racing prototypes is symbolic of a desire to promote the development of Swiss talent. Winner at Le Mans and crowned World Endurance Driver Champion in 2016 with Porsche, Neel Jani is without a doubt the biggest star to come out of Rebellion Racing. But let's not forget the other Swiss drivers at the wheel of Rebellion Racing's cars since 2010: Mathias Beche, Harold Primat, Fabio Leimer, Alexandre Imperatori and Mathéo Tuscher.

Winner of the FIA World Endurance Championship LM P1 Teams Trophy, Rebellion Racing started a new chapter this past weekend at the 6 Hours of Bahrain: after a final win in LM P1, the Swiss team will move to LM P2 in 2017.

The next installment of this saga will cover the key dates in Rebellion Racing's history since 2010.
