Defeated in 2010 in the final kilometers by the of HPD David Brabham and Simon Pagenaud, the Lola Aston Martin had revenge on the streets of Long Beach.
Launched last year onto the circuit California as a factory Aston Martin, the AMR Lola is entrusted this year to Team CytoSport, with Lucas Luhr and Klaus Graf driving, who passed the other Lola of Guy Smith and Chris Dyson (Dyson Racing) in the first lap. The final caution bunched up the competitors with eight laps to run but Luhr resisted the Lola-Mazda to win the second round American Le Mans Series 2011.
The LM GTE class sees the second consecutive victory for BMW after the 12 Hours of Sebring. A disagreement between the two M3 of Joey Hand and Bill Auberlen offered command to the the Corvette of Oliver Gavin, but the German marque gained the advantage again after the final caution. Joey Hand and Dirk Müller passed Oliver Gavin / Jan Magnussen (Corvette), while Jaime Melo and Toni Vilander gained a first podium finish in the new Ferrari 458 Italia.
