The Russian driver, who defines himself as very patriotic, doesn’t hide his pride of being able to race in a team that comes from his home country. In 2014, SMP Racing revealed itself internationally by winning the driver and team titles in the category LM P2 (Oreca 03) in the FIA World Endurance Championship, as well as all GT crowns (Ferrari 458 Italia) at stake in the European Le Mans Series. Also supported by SMP Racing, Aleshin has had the opportunity to race in the Indianapolis 500 in 2014, before joining the Russian team in LM P2 with a homemade prototype christened BR01.
"The 500 miles of Indianapolis and the 24 Hours of Le Mans are races that I have always wanted to do," he said. "The latter kind of represents a new chapter in my career. Besides the history and heritage, Le Mans isn’t just another race. I’m driving a Russian prototype, in a Russian team, with Russian co-drivers. SMP Racing is the only team to support drivers in our country, with currently approximately forty drivers. Motorsport is becoming bigger and bigger and more and more popular in Russia, with numerous international events: Formula 1, FIA Formula E, WTCC (FIA World Touring Car Championship), World Series by Renault and many more…As far as the BR01 is concerned, we still need a bit more time for its development but I am certain it will be fast.”
