Bas Leinders, Maxime Martin and David Heinemeier Hansson will drive the Morgan LM P2 #35 in the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2012. The second LM P2 (#24) will be driven by the Pla, Nicolet and Lahaye trio, while the LM P1 (#15) will be entrusted to Moreau, Wand and Kraihamer.
Bas Leinders and Maxime Martin were involved last year in a 100% Belgian driver crew that was completed by Vanina Ickx. Driving a Lola Aston Martin LMP1 (Kronos), they finished the race in 7th place. This time they will be joined by the Danish driver David Heinemeier Hansson, who will make his debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
All three drivers will have the opportunity to become familiar with the Morgan LM P2 during private test held tomorrow (Thursday, 19th April) on the Bugatti circuit at Le Mans. Leinders and Hansson will be at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps on the 5th May for the second round of the FIA World Endurance Championship. Martin, whose existing ADAC GT Masters commitments will see him race at Zandvoort over the same weekend, will join the crew for a test at Spa two days later in preparation for the Le Mans 24 Hours.
Sebastien Philippe, OAK Racing Team Principal: “The #35 Morgan 2012 LMP2 crew is a well balanced combination. For the past 20 years Bas has competed in a wide variety of categories and each time at a high level. Maxime, who is younger and perhaps less well known but nevertheless extremely fast, also already benefits from much experience and success. Both know Spa very well and have also competed at the Le Mans 24 Hours. While David will be making his debut in Belgium and at Le Mans, as well as being the car’s mandatory gentleman driver, he does benefit from having already raced the LMP2 car in the ALMS where his potential is developing round by round. The crew therefore boasts many advantages and certainly has great potential.”
