Founded in 1973, Oreca (ORganisation Exploitation Competition Automobile acronym) has amassed across four decades of existence one of the most impressive records in French and international motorsports: wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans (1991, with technical support by Mazda), at Daytona (2000), at the 12 Hours of Sebring (2011), and multiples titles in Formula 3 (with namely Alain Prost in 1979), rallycross, WTCC and many others.
Since 2011, Oreca is also a standout in the LM P2 class with its 03 chassis. With a reputation for infallible reliability no matter the engine, it is a go-to for competitors in the different "Le Mans" series (American Le Mans Series until 2013, European Le Mans Series, Asian Le Mans Series) and the World Endurance Championship (with driver and team titles thanks to SMP Racing in 2014), paradoxically failing to win in LM P2 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. That highly coveted victory was clinched by the new Oreca 05 closed chassis in 2015 at its first appearance at Le Mans, thanks to KCMG. The duel shaping up betwee the Chinese team and the Russian G-Drive Racing outfit will also be a battle between two French constructors: Oreca and Onroak Automotive, constructor of G-Drive's Ligier JS P2s.
Note also the Oreca 03 chassis served as the basis for the development of the Alpine A450, two-time winner of the driver and team titles in the European Le Mans Series in 2013 and 2014 thanks to Signatech Alpine. Philippe Sinault's team also gave the Oreca 03 its first international crown in 2011 (under the name Signatech Nissan) in the LM P2 class of the Interncontinental Le Mans Cup, predecessor to the current World Endurance Championship.
