On Monday, Patrick Dempsey, who has participated in the 24 Hours of Le Mans twice, lost his mom following a long battle with cancer. Diagnosed in 1997, Amanda Dempsey rallied courageously before losing the fight at 79 years of age, surrounded by family. Patrick Dempsey and his two sisters founded a center for the support of cancer patients in the state of Maine.
Amanda Dempsey, who endured several cancer recurrences, was cared for by the Central Main Medical Center at which The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing is based. The center that carries the actor's name has raised five million dollars since its inception six years ago and provides care and information free of charge to patients.
The actor-driver, who will compete in the entire season of the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, will be at the start of the 82nd edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans on June 14th, at the wheel of a Porsche in the LM GTE Am class, like last year.
The Automobile Club de l'Ouest extends its sincerest condolences to Patrick Dempsey, his family and those he holds dear.
