Pilbeam, objective Le Mans with a new prototype

Following a six year absence from the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the British constructor Pilbeam announced the development of a new prototype conforming to the LM P2 rules. The first car will be run by a South African team aiming to compete in the FIA World Endurance Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Like its predecessor, the M93, seen at Le Mans from 2005 to 2007, the MP100 is an open cockpit prototype, but with reworked aerodynamics using computational fluid dynamics. The development, based on the M93 chassis, was financed in part by Dr. Greg Mills, a South African native who heads a foundation for the economic development of the African continent who aims to enter a 100% South African team in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Ecurie Zoo Racing, who have already won races on home soil using another Mike Pilbeam creation, the MP98, will be the first to use the MP100, of which Mike Pilbeam is looking to sell other examples. Greg Mills is looking to participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans as early as 2014.
