Porsche and Michelin: a 50-year love story at Le Mans and on the roads (video)

Though Porsche and Michelin clinched their first shared victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1998, their love story on circuits and on roads has been unfolding for 50 years. It allowed the German manufacturer to triumph again and beat its own win record in 2015 and 2016.

Before Porsche's return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans with a prototype in 2014, the German manuacturer won many times in GT, often via private teams. The Porsche 911's last victory at Le Mans dates back to 2013 in LM GTE Pro with Porsche AG Team Manthey: at the time a partnership between the marque and the Olaf Manthey team (Porsche acquired 51% of the Manthey outfit at the end of the 2013 season). At the wheel were Marc Lieb and Romain Dumas - who went on to win the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans - and Richard Lietz.

After a year of transition in GT to develop the latest version of the 911, in 2017 Porsche will return officially to LM GTE Pro in tandem with its involvement in LM P1 with the 919 Hybrid. The choice of tire suppliers is open in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) and Porsche will be continuing its parternship with Michelin.
