For each lap completed by Porsche Penske Motorsport's three Porsche 963s, €750 were paid into a special fund in support of the campaign "Racing for Charity." The German marque's Hypercars covered 733 laps for a total of €549,750. Porsche added the difference to increase the take to €911,000, a wonderful nod to its iconic 911.
The associations Kinderherzen retten and Interplast-Germany e.V. will each receive €350,000 toward the care of children in developing regions who suffer from heart disease, injuries, deformities or burns. The remaining €211,000 will be donated to Ferry Porsche Foundation created in May 2018 to mark the manufacturer's 70th anniversary.
Last Friday during the ACO press conference, the Sustainable Endurance Award by DHL was given to Porsche-Penske for their charitable endeavours. Twenty-two team files representing projects with positive social or environmental impacts were presented. Thirteen teams also welcomed students from the Garage Ecole du Mans of which the ACO and Motul are partners.
Of the three official Porsche 963s, two made it to the chequered flag. The #5 driven by Dane Cameron finished 16th and the #6 entrusted to Kévin Estre/André Lotterer/Laurens Vanthoor ended the race in 22nd place. The #75 shared by Felipe Nasr/Mathieu Jaminet/Nick Tandy was forced to retire with a fuel pressure problem.
