The first day of free practice for 6 Hours of Le Castellet ended without any clear hierarchy being established, but one thing is for sure, Aston Martin are struggling.
Oliver Pla had the fastest time of 1:48.004 in the day in the Zytek. Followed by both Lola Toyotas of team Rebellion. Fourth was the Pescarolo Tinseau-Jousse-Collard only two tenths behind. Tomorrow, the dash for pole position will be a tight one.
The first public lap of the new Aston Martin AMR-One will probably not remain a cheished memory of George Howard Chappell (technical director). The straight six seemed to be the source of problems. The open LM P1 turned only one lap during the 120 minutes of testing. Having arrived from England in the early afternoon, the engine gave off a little smoke after only a few hundred metres. It was not serious though; a loose fuel line was to blame.
Tomorrow (Saturday) will be the qualifying of the 6 Hours of Le Castellet.
