Quotes from the overall podium

Porsche claimed its 17th victory, 17 years after the last one, thanks to Nico H

Nick Tandy: "Honestly, racing in an LM P1 is very different from racing in a GT car. It is much simpler because you are not overtaken that often, especially in the quickest car. We had an amazing race. The temperature came down this morning and it suited the way our car was working. We are able to do four stints with the tires and we had the pace for victory."

Earl Bamber: "The last 12 months have been incredible. I was in the same go-kart club as Brendon Hartley and he actually taught me how to drive. This victory is beyond my dreams. I hope I can come back many more times because it is a great race and come back next year with those guys."

Nico Hülkenberg: "Our goal was to have one car on the podium, but a 1-2 victory is amazing. I am very proud of what we achieved. We had a flawless race with a great pace and we didn't make any mistake. The last lap was a bit weird because it was drizzling and people got nervous in the garage. After the finish line, it is amazing to see thousands and thousands of people cheering up. I am very happy that we've done it."

Mark Weber: "We weren’t quick enough. Simple as that. The guys in the 19 did a great job. All three of them were exceptional for 24 hours. We served a penalty as well, I don’t know if that would have been enough… maybe if we didn’t have that. Especially in the night, the No. 19 car was really quick. It left the Audis and the other Porsches as well."

Brendon Hartley: It’s very special to be on the podium here. It’s my fourth Le Mans and up until now I was alone as a New Zealander. Even on the podium, to see a few New Zealand flags flying was very special. Having Earl [Bamber] and Mitch [Evans] on the Le Mans podium… I think, for many years to come, we’ll look back on this day in New Zealand motorsport."

Timo Bernhard: " A victory would have been a dream, but now it’s a double victory, so it’s very special for the whole team. I’m very proud of the whole team, they did an awesome race; the pit stops and the car ran perfectly. I think we did a good effort here. It will be a Le Mans that we will all remember. Personally, I’ve never had a quick race like this and pushed like that. It was really a sprint race. This was motorsport at the highest level."

Marcel Fässler: "Porsche really deserves the victory. Our car was fast, but we had a few issues. First André Lotterer had a puncture and then this morning, I came back to the pits with a missing engine cover. We were two laps down and from that point, we knew we couldn't win even if we ran 105-110% the whole race."

Benoît Tréluyer: "We did our best, but Lady Luck was not on our side this year. And you need luck to win at Le Mans. It is still a great feeling to be on the podium."

André Lotterer: "I set the best lap in the race, but I would have preferred to win because nobody will remember. The Porsche were doing one more lap and we had to push the whole race to try to catch up with them. We had too many issues to win this race."
