The official Porsche driver competed in and won the 16th edition of the Tour de Corse Classic which took place October 3-8, 2016. Along with famous co-pilot Denis Giraudet (five victories in the Word Rally Championship with Juha Kankkunen and Didier Auriol), Dumas has won 12 of the 16 special races.
At the wheel of his 1974 Porsche 911 3.0 RS prepared by Joffroy Automobile and managed by RD Limited (Romain Dumas Limited, his own outfit), he came in ahead of another individual well-known at Le Mans: Erik Comas, who has participated eight times in the 24 Hours with as best result a second place finish in 2005 at the wheel of a Pescarolo C60 Judd along with Emmanuel Collard and Jean-Christophe Boullion.
Romain Dumas will now return to the World Endurance Championship. Indeed, he is leading the provisional driver standings (with teammates Marc Lieb and Neel Jani) and fully intends to become world champion for the first time in his career. Dumas, who has won twice at the 24 Hours of Le Mans (2010 and 2016), will be hard at work toward his goal in his #2 Porsche 919 Hybrid this coming weekend at the 6 Hours of Fuji in Japan.
