Drivers Club chairman Gérard Larrousse presented the award to Romain Dumas in recognition of his remarkable 2016 season, highlighted by his second Le Mans victory last June, in the Porsche 919 Hybrid. The 2016 World Endurance Champion was flattered to receive the award from Larrousse, another two-time winner at the Circuit de la Sarthe (with Henri Pescarolo in 1973 and 1974). At the French motorsport federation’s awards ceremony last December, Dumas cited Larrousse as his inspiration for his success across a range of disciplines.
Dumas’ 2016 season was marked by two special wins in close succession. Just one week after snatching the 24 Hours title at the death with teammates Neel Jani and Marc Lieb, Dumas claimed victory in the famous Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in Colorado (USA), one of the world’s oldest motorsport competitions.
Although Dumas’ plans for this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans are still under wraps, he is already working on the 2017 Pikes Peak programme, as revealed to Larrousse at Rétromobile before joining the Porsche stand.
