With a forename shared with a Porsche factory driver and almost the same surname as a Toyota works driver, 2015 European Nissan GT Academy winner Romain Sarazin seemed destined for a career in endurance. He may well end up with his name on an LM P1 prototype like his predecessors, Jann Mardenborough and Lucas Ordoñez, and Olivier Pla, his mentor throughout the final stages of the competition.
An impressive 56 budding drivers of eleven different nationalities gathered in Abu Dhabi for the week-long finals of the 2015 edition of Nissan GT Academy. Ultimately, Sarazin fought off the thirteen other contenders who had battled through to the final race held at the Yas Marina circuit.
2014 winner Gaëtan Paletou soon made the switch to high-level competition racing after Greaves Motorsport signed him up to drive in the LM P2 class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Sarazin will be the next to swap his gamer’s console for a real sportscar when he joins the Nissan development programme. What odds on an appearance at Le Mans 2016?
