Ryan Briscoe and Renger van der Zande, drivers of the #10 Cadillac DPi.V.R, clinched a last-minute win at the 23rd Motul Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta this weekend.
With less than 12 minutes left on the clock, the plot of this year’s Motul Petit Le Mans took an unexpected turn. The #10 lay third, some 20 seconds behind Pipo Derani in the #31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac and Ricky Taylor in the #7 Acura Team Penske Acura ARX-05, when the leaders collided on Turn 6, leaving the way clear.
The #31 and #7 had been regularly swapping places up to that point, with barely a second between them in the last hour. Ricky Taylor piled the pressure on Pipo Derani on several occasions but none of the skirmishes was reprimanded with a penalty for either driver.
In LMP2, the #8 Tower Motorsports by Starworks Oreca LMP2 (Farano/Jensen/van Uitert) took the lead in the ninth hour and held on until the end.
In GTLM (equivalent of the FIAWEC LMGTE Pro class), the #911 Porsche 911 RSR-19 of Tandy/Makowiecki/Campbell claimed vic, ahead of the #3 Corvette Racing Corvette C8.R of Garcia/Taylor/Catsburg.
