On the world's roads, the combined distance travelled by examples of the electric coupé runs into millions of miles

More than 1500 Tesla Roadsters are now on the roads of 38 countries, and have now reached a combined 10 million miles travelled, the greatest distance covered by a fully electric car.

Named after Nikola Tesla (1856-1943), pioneer of the invention of electrical distribution networks, the Roadster and 375 Volt electric motor (288 hp) can reach speeds exceeding 200 km/h. It has already attracted worldwide interest from many personalities including Leonardo DiCaprio, French footballer Florent Malouda and Raphael Ibanez, former captain of France's rugby team as well being influential in the new ecological economy.

Four examples of the Tesla Roadster will be starting the Monte Carlo Rally for Alternative Energy Vehicles, which will take place from 31 March to 3 April. It won last year at the hands of Erik Comas and Sebastien Chol, and was the first 100% electric vehicle to win an official competition of the FIA.
