The 2019 24 Hours of Le Mans for Algarve Pro Racing (LMP2)

43 teams (fielding 61 cars) competed in the 87th 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Super Finale of the FIA WEC 2018-19 World Endurance Championship. There were winners, of course, but also mechanical glitches, track incidents and early retirements. Joy for some, disappointment for others... Here’s a summary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the Algarve Pro Racing team, which ran in the LMP2 class.

Team: Algarve Pro Racing

Class: LMP2

Car: ORECA 07-Gibson

Drivers:

  • David Zollinger (3rd participation)
  • Andrea Pizzitola (3rd participation)
  • John Falb (1st participation)

This year, Algarve Pro Racing took its fourth start in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The #25 ORECA 07-Gibson qualified in 23rd position with a time of 3:28.457 clocked by Andrea Pizzitola during the second session. In the race, as the Portuguese team was well on its way to a top 10 finish in LMP2, the car's right front brake disc failed. Despite the setback, it finished in 15th place overall and 10th in the class. "I'm happy because we were looking for a top 10 finish going into the race. The team prepared this car extremely well. We had no problems during the race other than the brake. I guess we could have finished in the top 8, but I'm thrilled for the team and for my teammates," said Andréa Pizzitola.
