The 2019 24 Hours of Le Mans for Inter Europol Competition (LMP2)

43 teams (fielding 61 cars) competed in the 87th 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Super Finale of the FIA WEC 2018-19 World Endurance Championship. There were winners, of course, but also mechanical glitches, track incidents and early retirements. Joy for some, disappointment for others... Here’s a summary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the Inter Europol Competition team, which ran in the LMP2 class.

Team: Inter Europol Competition

Class: LMP2

Car: Ligier JS P217-Gibson

Drivers:

  • Jakub Smiechowski (1st participation)
  • James Winslow (4th participation)
  • Nigel Moore (3rd participation)

This year, Inter Europol Competition took its first start in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Polish team qualified in 26th position with a time of 3:30.744 clocked by Nigel Moore during the first session. The first six hours of the race for the Ligier JS P217-Gibson went smoothly. Later on, the team had to change out the spoiler twice for malfunctioning taillights, and also experienced compressor problems and a flat tyre. Inter Europol Competition finished in 45th position overall and 16th in the LMP2 class. "I'm happy we made it to the finish line. Obviously, it's not how we wanted to finish. The team worked hard to get the car back on the track with every problem that arose. I think it did extraordinary work, so thanks to the team," said Jakub Smiechowski.
