The 2019 24 Hours of Le Mans for Signatech Alpine Matmut (LMP2)

43 teams (fielding 61 cars) competed in the 87th 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Super Finale of the FIA WEC 2018-19 World Endurance Championship. There were winners, of course, but also mechanical glitches, track incidents and early retirements. Joy for some, disappointment for others... Here’s a summary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the Signatech Alpine Matmut team, which ran in the LMP2 class.

TEAM: Signatech Alpine Matmut

Class: LMP2

Car: Alpine A470-Gibson

Drivers:

  • Nicolas Lapierre (12th participation)
  • André Negrão (3rd participation)
  • Pierre Thiriet (9th participation)

After winning the LMP2 class last year, Signatech Alpine Matmut had high hopes for the 87th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The team was also leading the FIA Endurance LMP2 Teams Trophy by only four points on Jackie Chan DC Racing. The #36 Alpine A470-Gibson qualified in 11th position with a time of 3:25.874 clocked by Nicolas Lapierre during the third session. In the race, the battle raged with G-Drive Racing's #26 Aurus 01-Gibson. Nicolas Lapierre, André Negrão and Pierre Thiriet kept up their qualifying pace for 24 hours, finishing sixth overall and winning the LMP2 class for the third time. And, the result delivered Philippe Sinault's team the FIA Endurance LMP2 Teams Trophy.
