Ferrari was unable to win the LMGTE Pro class this year (its last victory dates back to 2014), but JMW Motorsport's 488 GTE did add a trophy to the Italian manufacturer's collection by winning in LMGTE Am.

Eleven Ferrari 488 GTEs were entered in the 85th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Three competed in the LMGTE Pro class with mixed results. AF Corse's #51 driven by James Calado, Alessandro Pier Guidi and Michele Rugolo battled for the lead before contact with another car caused the Italian car to finish 11th. The #71 of Sam Bird, Miguel Molina and Davide Rigon was unable to better than fifth place.

Risi Competizione's #82 driven by Pierre Kaffer, Toni Vilander and Giancarlo Fisichella had even less luck, pushed by TDS Racing's #28 Oreca 07-Gibson with Matthieu Vaxivière at the wheel and forced to finish the race at the barrier of the first Mulsanne chicane.

Yet Ferrari did find success with the win for JMW Motorsport's #84 of Dries Vanthoor, Robert Smith and Will Stevens in LMGTE Am. Will Stevens: "I wanted to re-immerse myself in a competitive environment and JMW gave me the opportunity to run in a factory car. I had to learn very fast because the 488 GTE is completely new, but I really enjoyed driving the car. It's a big win for JMW but also for me."

The top three spots in the class were all claimed by Ferraris, with the #55 driven by Duncan Cameron, Aaron Scott and Marco Cioci as well as Scuderia Corse's #62 of Cooper MacNeil, Bill Sweedler and Townsend Bell. Scuderia Corse has now reached three podium finishes in three participations with one victory in LMGTE Am in 2016.
