The challenges of the WEC 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps leading up to the 24 Hours of Le Mans

Tomorrow Saturday, May 2nd will take place the second round of the 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) season. Though victory is the target for all competitors of the WEC 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, they do not all share the same goals heading into the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

For the competitors racing in the entire season, this race is a final "dress rehearsal" before the 83rd edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, whereas for Audi and Porsche's third cars, the goal is to tighten up the driver line-ups in-race as any given private test session can never be as good as the real thing.

In LM P2, Jota Sport - a regular participant in the European Le Mans Series - will rub elbows with the protagonists in the World Championship whom it will go up against at Le Mans, like last year. A second place finish in the class in the Belgian Ardennes translated into a win a few years later at the 24 Hours. The American team ESM's objective is different since it has just taken possession of the two Ligier JS P2s with which it will compete for the remainder of the season. After a rough time at the Nevers Magny-Cours circuit, the drivers will break in their cars in race conditions.

It's a different situation in LM GTE Pro with Aston Martin Racing entering the third drivers who will support their regular driver line-ups at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, while Ferrari prefèrs to stick with its typical pairs and Porsche has unusual duos set to race this weekend at Laguna Seca in California for the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, in which the German manufacturer is also officially entered.

Lastly, in LM GTE Am, the AF Corse outfit has entered a second Ferrari for the driver line-up Cameron-Griffin-Mortimer with the goal of gaining experience for the 83rd edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The start of the WEC 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps will be at 2:30 p.m. local time on Saturday, May 2nd!
