Every year a slighty bizarre coup arrive to take the Raceway 'by the horns' and no question of returning to the barn before the end of summer grazing. For nearly twenty years, a group of race mad students arrive in fancy dress as 'The cows of Sebring'. A group who originally wanted to parody American student fraternities.
Today the group is more alive than ever. The 'herd' arrived on Thursday at Sebring International Raceway. Fourteen strong they don the cowhide for the weekend and mutate into thirsty cattle. Their occupations during the meeting of the 12 Hours of Sebring: laughter, parading, visiting the Party Zone, watching the cars on the track and especially always with a beer in hand. The "Pope' of Cows'' wears a pair of horns that carries the slogan "the beer be with you!"
Becoming a cow is always possible: just ask. If the good looks of the recipient appeals to old cows, he dons bovine costume at the 12 Hours of Sebring, and integrates with the herd during the race, becoming officially 'a cow for life'.
In September, the cows leave their ranch at Sebring for the migration to Petit Le Mans where they have been informally invited. History shows that the grass is always greener...
