Each year at the end of the race (just like on the Walk of Fame in Hollywood!), the winning drivers make their handprints and footprints in plaster. This mold is then used to produce a bronze plaque having the shape of a wheel, which also bears their names and the year of their victory. After casting in bronze, it is placed in the pedestrian streets of Le Mans and officially opened at the next race.
For more than twenty years, these plaques have accumulated in the streets of the Saint-Nicolas neighbourhood, in the heart of Le Mans city which really lives at the pace of its race: the 24 Hours!
This year, the three 2012 winners, Benoit Treluyer, Marcel Fässler et Andre Lotterer, will be at Place Saint Nicolas at 6.30pm for the inauguration of their bronze plaque !
