In this record year - 834 laps for the winners, beating previous record by four laps - the 24 Hours Moto attracted 82,200 spectators.
The slght decline seen this year, compared with a peak similar to that of 2008, is largely explained by the change of dates of an event normally held earlier in April. It usually takes two to three years in a sporting event to establish a new programming schedule. Although the footfall of the 24 Heures Moto is down from 2010, the Le Mans circuit remains the same and consolidates its leading position in motor racing in France. With the MotoGP Grand Prix of France where 176,200 spectators were recorded from 13th to 15th May, a total of 258,400 people attended these two wheel events, four thousand more than last year.
The change of dates for this classic of endurance racing was done in order to provide motorcycle enthusiasts with the two biggest events on the calendar sufficiently spaced to attend all the MotoGP in the first half of the year and the Moto 24 in the second.
On balance, this change in schedule of these two major events has been sucessfull and will be consolidated next year. Remaining in the second half of the year, the final dates of the 24 Heures Moto 2012 will be announced at a later date.
Thank you to all our viewers motorcycle enthusiasts. In 2012, motorcycle sport will live again at Le Mans with four unmissable races on the Bugatti circuit: Championnat de France Superbike, MotoGP, Coupes de France Promosport and the 24 Heures Moto.
