The new Ford GT coming out in the U.S. in 2016 (video)

To celebrate the historic one-two-three at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans, Ford announced its official return to the Tudor United Sportscar Championship (TUSC), to the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and of course to the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The announcement took place the day before the 83rd edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans at the Ford press conference.

Next year will mark the 50th anniversary of Ford's first win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The American marque went on to score consecutive victories in 1967, 1968 and 1969.

In 2016, Ford will officially return to endurance. Ford GTs will be entrusted and utilized by the Chip Ganassi Racing Team With Felix Sabates (CGRFS). At the 24 Hours of Le Mans, four units of this Ford GT will be entered.

For now, no driver has been officially announced. In Détroit, they want to take their time in choosing their men. In the meantime, check out Scott Pruett and Joey Hand, current Chip Ganassi Racing team drivers in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, talk about this Ford GT, the successor to the Ford GT 40, and its arrival in the American championship in 2016.
