The new Ford GT subject to equivalence tests on Michelin tracks

One unit of all the cars competing in the LM GTE class must be submitted to the Michelin test centre located in Ladoux, north of Clermont-Ferrand in France, to determine the balance of performance for the 2016 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) season and the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The new Ford GT is no exception to the rule.

So as to evaluate the cars on neutral ground, the test tracks utilized by the French manufacturer to test its own products have been selected by the Automobile Club de l'Ouest and the FIA for the evaluation and approval process of the GTs. These tests will take place next week, and among the contructors present, Ford is of course one of the most highly anticipated since it will make its big official return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans next year.

Presented on the eve of the 83rd edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Ford GT will enter both the world scene in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and North America in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, renamed the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship for the 2016 season following the change in main sponsor.

For the operation of the two cars entered in each championship, Ford has called upon the Chip Ganassi Racing outfit, simultaneously present in endurance, the IndyCar Series, the American single-seaters championship and in NASCAR.

At the end of these tests, the car will once again cross the Atlantic for new test sessions prior to making its official debut in competition at the Rolex 24 at Daytona January 30-31, 2016.
