The official donation ceremony took place in the presence of a number of local dignitaries and proved once again that the ACO places heritage high on its list of priorities, especially this year, which marks the club’s 110th anniversary.
Symbolically, this donation is particularly dear to the ACO and is a great asset to the 24 Hours museum collection. Porsche is the most successful carmaker in the history of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The 911 is the car most frequently seen on the Le Mans grid and the Porsche 911 GT3-RSR is an outstanding piece of machinery. In 2013 the car won the LM GTE Am class, the marque’s hundredth win at Le Mans, in the 911’s 50th anniversary year. 2013 was also the 90th anniversary of the race itself and to celebrate, Porsche ran a full season World Endurance Championship campaign.
All in all, the Porsche 911 GT3-RSR deserves a place of honour in the 24 Hours museum collection. The superb, recently refurbished museum now boasts 110 vehicles in its permanent collection. All the pieces displayed were generously donated by constructors, competitors, drivers or sponsors. Yet ACO heritage does not stop at cars. The club also has hundreds of thousands of unique photographs and objects that form the history of the 24 Hour of Le Mans.
The ACO is immensely grateful to IMSA Performance and Matmut for entrusting it with such a superb piece. IMSA Performance and Matmut have long been part of the landscape of the 24 Hours and as an insurer, Matmut also makes an important contribution to making our roads safer for all.
Pierre Fillon, President of the Automobile Club de l’Ouest: We are particularly proud to see the Porsche 911 GT3-RSR become part of our extensive collection. I would like to thank Franck Rava of IMSA Performance, and Daniel Havis, chairman of Matmut, for the longstanding relationship we have, for working alongside us on the competitive aspects of the race but also on raising awareness about road safety. The ACO celebrates its 110th anniversary this year and we look forward to showing off our new prized possession. It is yet another good reason to come and visit the 24 Hours museum, to see it up close and admire it from all angles.
Daniel Havis, Chairman of Matmut: We have been working with IMSA Performance for twelve years now. Twelve years of sporting performance and excellent teamwork. As we begin a new chapter, I must say I am particularly pleased to see the car that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2013 enter this hall of fame. The Porsche 911 GT3-RSR flew the flag for Matmut and it gives us great pleasure to share her with automobile fans from all over the world.
