Three new 24 Hours of Le Mans medals for Corvette driver Oliver Gavin

This past August, burglars broke into the English home of Oliver Gavin, official Chevrolet Corvette driver, and made off with several items including a helmet and 24 Hours of Le Mans medals given to drivers as souvenirs. This weekend, at the Rolex 24 at Daytona, the five-time class winner was surprised with three new replacement medals from the ACO.

Though Oliver Gavin did not achieve the success expected at the Rolex 24 at Daytona, first race of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, the three 24 Hours of Le Mans medals (2013, 2014 and 2015) presented to him by ACO Sporting Director Vincent Beaumesnil softened the blow a bit. The three original medals were stolen from his home during a burglary last year.

The official driver with Corvette Racing won in Florida in 2016 by less than a tenth of a second after a stunning head-to-head with his teammate Antonio Garcia. That after a class win no less impressive at the 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans when only one Corvette C7.R took the start, the second car having been damaged during the free practice.

Will Corvette Racing and Oliver Gavin figure on the invitees list for the 85th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans? The answer during the ACO web conference on Thursday, February 2nd at 4:00 p.m. local time!
