Timo Bernhard and Jörg Bergmeister named Porsche ambassadors

During Porsche's Night of Champions, Porsche Motorsport vice president Fritz Enzinger announced that Timo Bernhard will no longer represent the marque as an official factory driver in 2020. Instead, the German driver and Jörg Bergmeister will serve as Porsche ambassadors.

Timo Bernhard will no longer serve as an official Porsche factory driver in 2020. The German driver (age 38) has been named a marque ambassador along with Jörg Bergmeister, winner of the 2018-2019 FIA Endurance Drivers Trophy and GTE Am Teams Trophy with Team Project 1.

Bernhard has taken the start in the 24 Hours of Le Mans an impressive 12 times, with two wins to his credit. The first dates back to 2010 at the wheel of an Audi R15 TDi for Audi Sport North America he shared with Romain Dumas and Mike Rockenfeller. The second was in 2017 with teammates Brendon Hartley and Earl Bamber driving the Porsche 919 Hybrid LMP1 fielded by Porsche LMP Team. He also claimed the top step on a class podium in 2002 with the Porsche 911 GT3-RS of the American team The Racer’s Group. Bernhard's overall track record includes five wins at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring (from 2006 to 2009 then in 2011), two FIA Endurance World Champion titles (2015 and 2017), and one win at the Rolex 24 at Daytona (2003) and the 12 Hours of Sebring (2008).

Timo Bernhard will also focus on his own outfit, Team 75 Bernhard.

Jörg Bergmeister's (age 43) career as an official Porsche factory driver is coming to an end as well. He boasts 17 participations in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, including two wins in the GT class (2004 and 2019) and the top step on the podium at the Rolex 24 at Daytona (2003) and the 24 Hours of Spa (2010).
