Today’s Photo Story - John Morrison at the 24 Hours of Le Mans 1979 in a De Cadenet

On 8 December 1943, Jim Morrison, singer of American band The Doors died tragically in Paris in 1971. Fans still flock to his grave to this day. In 1979, a namesake, British driver John Morrison entered the 24 Hours of Le Mans with a De Cadenet Lola. His car didn’t last the course.

Another Briton, Alain de Cadenet, whose French father was an aviator and a filmmaker was drawn to motorsports by chance and rapidly hooked. He built and drove his own sports prototypes, entering the De Cadenet-Lola for the 24 Hours of Le Mans several times, most successfully in 1976, when he mounted the podium in third place. Well, to be precise, he could have shared the third step with teammate Chris Craft, but he got lost on the way!
