Today's Photo Story - Jaguar wins the 21st edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans

On December 5, 1933, the 21st Amendment to the United States Constitution went into effect after it was ratified by the 36th state, Utah, and as a result prohibition ended. On June 14, 1953, Jaguar won the 21st edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

With no less than 18 marques represented, the 21st edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans lived up to its hype thanks to the battle between Jaguar, Alfa Romeo and Ferrari. Well-served by its use of disc brakes, the British manufacturer won, thanks to the #18 Type C driven by Tony Rolt and Duncan Hamilton who surpassed the symbolic bar of 4,000 km in-race. It would not be before 1967 that the 5,000 km mark would be reached…we're still waiting on 6,000 km !
