Today's Photo Story - John Duff, the first Canadian to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1924

On December 31, 1857, the city of Ottawa was chosen by Queen Victoria as the capitol of Canada. On May 27, 1924, Captain John Duff, one of the Bentley Boys, became the first and sole to-date Canadian to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

At the start of the second edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, figured one lone Brit, Frank Clement, and one Canadian, John Duff: they would go on to win, giving Bentley the first of its six victories at Le Mans. John Duff's nationality can be a bit confusing given that Canada had been independent since 1867, but its citizens were considered British subjects until 1947. Captain John Duff was accepted into the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame in 2006.
